Teach Them Diligently Updates

A few posts ago, we announced that we will be at Teach Them Diligently 2022 in Pigeon Forge, TN. We have a few updates for you:

  • We will be speaking! Find us in South 4, on Friday, May 6th, at 9:00 am. Nathan will be talking about how homesteading can enhance your homeschooling journey and some tips on how to get started. Click here for a copy of the schedule.
  • Our booth number is 726. We won’t be selling anything, but we will provide a place where you can talk about your dreams, and ask questions about homesteading for your family. We’ll also be displaying books that have helped us on our homesteading journey.

We look forward to seeing you at Nathan’s talk, and we would love to answer any questions you have at our booth!

Back To Eden

The documentary, “Back to Eden”  was very encouraging for us and was one of the means God used to get us into this homesteading journey back in 2014.

We have used the technique, and found some interesting things to add:

  • One size does not fit all.
  • Plants such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, and sweet peas did well in wood chips as a medium for us.
  • We used hay for carrots, lettuce and radishes because they wouldn’t germinate through wood chips.
  • Mushroom compost is something you have to purchase and bring on the homestead, but our melons, tomatoes, cucumbers and other vine plants did amazing in this medium.
  • For more tips, Noah Sanders has expanded upon this technique on his website, Redeeming the Dirt.
